regarding our Company has reached you and that, in the interests

of British trade, it is necessary to put a stop to it immediate-

The status of our Company is well known to the Board

of Trade and to the Home Office, who have both carefully

scrutinized our business and satisfied themselves as to our

good faith.

For the last ten years before the war, this house

had conducted a trade in the import of foreign produce and

the export of British manufactures amounting to a turnover

of close on 2400,000 a year. It was founded at this ad-

dress in 1888 by Mr.H.Sanders, who was born in Bremen, and

soon after returning to Europe from Hongkong 27 years ago,

relinquished his original citizenship by denationalisation

and on completing the necessary residential qualification,

became a naturalised British subject some 20 years ago.

He and the writer, a natural born British subject, are the

sole direotors of the Company. The man Rehders, whose name

figures in the style of the firm, was associated with Mr.Ban-

ders in the early days of the enterprise for less than two

years, but, disliking London, he severed his connection with

the firm and returned to the East 24 years ago, since when

he has had no sort of connection of any kind with the business.
